SUMMARY:Con Cariño Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Guadalupe Hernandez is a Texas-based artist who earned his MFA from Houston Baptist University in 2021. Hernandez was born in San Miguel de Allende\, Mexico\, before relocating to Pleasanton\, TX\, a small city south of San Antonio\, in 1998. Despite the move to the United States\, Hernandez maintained a deep connection to his Mexican heritage and customs through time-honored familial traditions. \nThis exhibit pays homage to his parents who left their homeland in search of a brighter future for their family. The accompanying pieces in this collection weave together fragments of their journey and the various forms of labor they undertook to provide their children with the opportunities they were denied. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCon Cariño translates to\n“with love” or\n“with care”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nCentral to Hernandez’s practice is the use of chisels and punches\, which wield a dual significance in this body of work. The physicality of using the chisel—he believes—mirrors the repetitive and labor-intensive endeavors of his parents. The level of skill\, precision\, and care required to produce these delicate designs serve as a visual representation of his love and admiration for the sacrifices his parents made.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA few of Hernandez’s most recent accomplishments include the Nest Heritage Craft Prize for his efforts to preserve and push forward the Mexican folk art tradition of Papel Picado and being a visiting artist for the Art Students League of Denver. He was also notably among six pairs of visual artists in the 2022 US Latinx Art Forum Mentorship Program\, supporting an intergenerational skill exchange. He has also participated in artist residencies with institutions such as the Asia Society Texas Center and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCon Cariño will be on display at the Ellen Noël Art Museum from August 23rd\, 2024 – December 1st\, 2024.  \nThe Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon until 5pm\, extended hours on Thursdays until 8pm. \nAdmission is always free.

Cornejo’s new album ‘MIRADA’ will be released on July 18 via Zaragoza Records / Interscope Records. “My new album represents an exciting evolution\, and growth of my musical journey\,” Cornejo says. “Each track has a blend of my signature style but with a fresh sound that pushes the boundaries of my art.”\n\nEarlier this year\, Ivan performed a record-breaking show in front of 72\,000 people at a sold-out Rodeo Houston stadium show. The experience was daunting for the introspective then 19 year-old artist who only a couple of years ago was busy on TikTok\, posting his confessional songs about having his heart broken in middle school. But the power of his own music – and a devoted fan base – carried him along during the biggest show of his career so far.

DESCRIPTION:Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define\, or even to find\, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying\, you know it when you hear it. \nAnd you always hear it with the Wallflowers. For the past 30 years\, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades\, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over. \nGood band name aside\, that life’s work continues with Exit Wounds\, the brand-new Wallflowers studio offering. The collection marks the first new Wallflowers material since Glad All Over. And while the wait has been long\, the much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound – lean\, potent and eminently entrancing – intact\, even as Dylan surrounds himself with a fresh cast of musicians. \nWhich\, the front man is quick to point out\, is not all that unusual. “The Wallflowers has always been a vehicle for me to make great rock ‘n’ roll records\,” he says. “And sometimes the lineup that makes the record transfers over into touring\, and sometimes it doesn’t. But my intention is always to make the Wallflowers record I want to make\, using the musicians I have beside me.”
