SUMMARY:40 Years 40 Artists: An Anniversary Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the Museum’s 40th anniversary\, we are excited to announce this exhibition as a tribute to our collection. Throughout the past four decades\, we have diligently collected and preserved a diverse collection of artworks that encapsulates the cultural and historical significance of our region and the broader artistic community. Our collecting mission has been rooted in the belief that collecting art is not merely a task; it is a responsibility we hold for future generations. By ensuring that these works of art\, along with the narratives they convey\, remain accessible\, we are fostering a lasting connection between our community and the artistic expressions that define it. \nThis exhibition will not only showcase 40 exceptional artists but also feature a timeline that highlights significant events from the Museum’s history over the last 40 years. These artworks will spark memories of past shows\, programs\, and events\, allowing visitors to reflect on our history. \nWe invite you to explore these artistic contributions that resonate with our identity and inspire ongoing dialogue about our community’s journey. Join us in celebrating our past\, present\, and future as we honor the artists and stories that shape our collective experience. \nThis exhibition features old favorites\, never-before-seen artworks\, and recent acquisitions\, all from the Museum’s vault.

SUMMARY:The Leaf Connection
DESCRIPTION:DATES: Now through Aug. 24\nTIMES: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.\nPRICE: Included with Membership or General Admission.\nThe Leaf Connection showcases the vibrant plant diversity of the Phoenix metro area through an intricate display of hand-made\, ceramic leaves at Webster Center. With more than 1\,000 ceramic pieces\, each leaf’s design is influenced by observations community scientists record on iNaturalist\, an established online platform where nature lovers share information on biodiversity. \nDuring the course of the exhibit\, local artist Mary Meyer will periodically add new ceramic leaves as more people contribute observations on iNaturalist. The Garden invites guests to engage with this distinctive art installation\, offering a captivating opportunity to reconnect with nature. \nExhibition unavailable during private events. \nMary Meyer is a sculptor and mixed media artist whose work utilizes systems of carved components that investigate the intimate connections between community and botanicals. Originally trained in stone carving\, she is drawn to meditative processes and materials such as clay\, wood and metal that foster the intuitive exploration of form. Meyer has lived in Arizona for more than 28 years. She holds a BFA in sculpture from Arizona State University where she studied foundry casting methods and metalworking. She completed her graduate studies at the University of Arizona\, where she received the MFA Fellowship for her work with large mixed media installations. The artist has exhibited at the Phoenix Art Museum; Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum; Tucson Museum of Art; and FOMA Gallery Santa Fe\, among others. Public collections include Sky Harbor International Airport Museum; Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art; City of Tempe; and Royal Caribbean International. She is an alumni member of Phoenix artist collectives Eye Lounge Contemporary Artspace and MARS Artspace\, and has served as an adjunct professor teaching sculpture and 3D Design at Arizona State University\, Scottsdale Community College and Chandler-Gilbert Community College. She lives and works in Gold Canyon\, AZ\, and has a studio at Cattle Track Arts Compound in Scottsdale.

SUMMARY:Create Playdate
DESCRIPTION:Create Playdate \nWant to make art inspired by your favorite Phoenix Art Museum works on view? Create Playdate offers young artists a hands-on maker experience during their visit through our mobile\, in-gallery art cart. SUMMARY:Midland Festival Ballet Presents Bach in Ballet
DESCRIPTION:This year’s showcase is themed around Johan Sebastian Bach. The Baroque composer may seem old\, and maybe even irrelevant\, but many famous neoclassical ballets are set to Bach’s music – most notably Concerto Barocco by George Balanchine\, which remains one of Balanchine’s most performed works around the world! Neoclassical ballet is all about making the music visual\, a difficult skill we start teaching and refining even in our youngest dancers. We’re excited to work with them as they hear new melodies (and instruments!) and learn about some of these ballets (an important part of a dancer’s education) while demonstrating all they’ve learned this year!
