SUMMARY:Jonathan Tyler w/ Special Guest Joshua Ray Walker
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 15 July 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \n“Rock ‘n’ roll\, blues\, and country are the same thing\, just wearing different clothes.” \nTo define Jonathan Tyler’s music would be doing it a disservice. To call it blues would be betraying the uplifting joy of tunes like “Underground Forever” or “California Sunshine.” To call it rock ‘n’ roll wouldn’t do justice to the burning meditation of songs like “Late Night Special” or “Hey Mama\, My Time Ain’t Long.” To call it country would be neglecting the sound and fury of “Mister Resistor” or the time-traveling catharsis of “Everything Was Cool in 2002.” Jonathan Tyler’s music defies expectation or sonic categorization – his music is the purest expression of everything you feel but don’t know how to express. It’s as friendly as a neighborhood saloon\, as pensive as a highway to Paris\, Texas\, as peaceful as the waters flowing through the Pecos river to the sea\, and as grand and evocative as the endless blue skies of the American west. \nIf there’s a single label that might be able to wrangle Tyler’s universal soul\, it’s Gram Parson’s iconic classification of his own style: “Cosmic American Music.” \nA Texan since childhood\, Jonathan Tyler has grown up enamored with the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll – and its ancestors. In 2007 he formed Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights\, who released their debut full-length album Hot Trottin’ to widespread acclaim. At the 2009 Dallas Observer Music Awards\, Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights walked away with “Best Group\,” “Best Blues Act\,” and “Best Male Vocalist.” Tyler would go on to win the latter award again the following year. The band was promptly signed to F-Stop/Atlantic Records and released Pardon Me in 2010\, leading to television appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Gordon Keith Show\, as well as tours supporting ZZ Top\, AC/DC\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, The Black Crowes\, and appearances at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and Austin City Limits. In 2015\, he released his debut solo album Holy Smokes – a genre-bending opus celebrating perseverance in the face of life’s twists and turns. \nAlong the way\, he’s mastered the art of the sounds between the sounds – honing his role behind the boards as a producer for Nikki Lane\, Desure\, Jeff Crosby and others. At the moment he’s working on a follow-up to Holy Smokes\, featuring hit singles like “Old Friend\,” “Underground Forever\,” and “Hustlin.” \nhttps://www.ticketfairy.com/event/jonathan-tyler-15jul2021/?pk=d1daf5c63435724b41389bf7d8f0a94cc7dcd3c2cd795284edc71fbe72e3347b

But before the road forked into country\, the musical odyssey of brothers Bellamy started creatively smoldering in their home state of Florida\, before exploding nationally amidst the ’70’s pop music culture of L.A.

SUMMARY:George Ducas
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 6 August 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorge Ducas\, a Grammy-nominated country artist/songwriter who links the real country of the 90s to present day hits\, is coming to town. \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFour albums (and countless songs written for other artists) has turned Ducas’ into one of country music’s most esteemed careers\, and he continues to evolve as an artist. \nHis self-titled debut album on Capitol Records yielded four Billboard charting songs\, including “Teardrops” and the Top 10 smash “Lipstick Promises.” His second album yielded two more Billboard charting songs. \n  \nAs a songwriter\, Ducas also has notched scores of hits as a songwriter for artists like Garth Brooks (Beer Run)\, Sara Evans\, Eli Young Band\, Randy Rogers Band\, Gary Allan\, Dixie Chicks\, Trisha Yearwood and more\, with one of his songs earning a Grammy nomination. \n  \nDucas’ latest evolution\, in the form of Yellow Rose Motel\, has yielded a 3-week #1 CMT video with his song “Eastwood” in an album that stands as his most comprehensive and cinematic to date. Written and recorded in several Nashville recording sessions throughout 2018 and 2019\, the album draws its name from the title track “Yellow Rose Motel\,” a song Ducas says is “inspired by and is an ode to Willie Nelson’s Red Headed Stranger\,” an album largely credited with the rise of country music’s outlaw movement. \n\nhttps://www.ticketfairy.com/event/george-ducas-6aug2021/?pk=711f3f700276c8eab7d1d4b379084a07c768e4bbbac94b49f1b6e922c8c578b8

SUMMARY:Ram Herrera
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 14 August 2021\, 7:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nRamiro “Ram” Herrera is a smooth-voiced\, award-winning Tejano singer and songwriter\, who is not only a staple on the Texas music scene but is considered one of its legends. He has received a Tejano Music Award as Male Entertainer of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Tejano Music Association. He began his professional career with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales in 1980 and appeared on the albums Cuatro Caminos (1981)\, Todavia No Me Muero(1982)\, and Especialmente Para Ti (1983). The following year\, he left and started his own band\, Ramiro Herrera y Montana\, with whom he recorded two albums — Que Lindo Es el Amor and Rosas Para una Rosas. Impressive regional airplay and a compelling live show resulted in Herrerasigning to Sony. His solo debut\, Most Wanted Man\, was not only his first in English\, it went gold; it is a classic in the Tejano canon. His third solo album\, 1989’s The Outlaw\, followed suit and his band was renamed the Outlaws. \nFor the next 15 years\, Herrera recorded almost annually and shared stages with a wide range of performers including Doug Sahm\, Freddy Fender\, and Selena — she opened for him at a rodeo in one of her early shows; video of the performance was captured and included in the documentary Corpus: A Home Movie for Selena by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lourdes Portillo. \nHerrera‘s musical range is impressive. His recordings and shows include everything from cumbias\, rancheras\, and power ballads to salsa\, Latin\, and roots rock & roll. His 2010 album\, Ungrateful\, was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Herrera is also involved in a vast number of charitable organizations and won a Humanitarian Award for his involvement; it was presented to him by Texas governor Ann Richards. His most recent compilation\, Solo Hits\, was issued by EMI in November 2016. \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/ram-herrera-14aug2021/

SUMMARY:Aaron Watson - Texas Music Friendly Community Certification
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 21 August 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nAaron Watson’s career is perhaps summed up best by Forbes\, who says  he’s “one of country music’s biggest DIY success stories.”For the past 20years\, Watson has achieved success on his own terms\, hand-building a lauded career through songwriting\, relentless touring and more than a dozen self released albums. His independent Texas spirit and strong work ethic are emblematic of the western lifestyle; virtues which have taken him from humble honky-tonks of Texas to multiple sold-out tours around the world. In 2019 he released Red Bandana—”his most ambitious album yet”(Taste of Country)—whose 20 song swere hailed by The Bootas” a pure expression of his traditional country ethos.”This unprecedented acclaim follows Watson’s previous album\, Vaquero\, whose Top 10 hit “OuttaStyle” earned a BMI Millionaire award\, and The Underdog\, the first independent album in the history of country music to top the Billboard Country Albums chart. With a dozen additional records under his belt\, Watson is exceeding major-label-sized metrics while maintaining his independence\, further galvanizing his”Texas country’s reigning indie underdog”(Rolling Stone) brand.”There maybe no more genuine singer-song writer at the moment than Watson\,” says Texas Monthly\, pointing to a self-made business man\, chart-topper\, and road warrior whose authenticity has made him a country music staple. \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/aaron-watson-21aug2021/ \nSpecial certification ceremony before the show as Texas Music Office’s Chip Adams certifies Odessa as a Texas Music Friendly Community!  \nhttps://gov.texas.gov/music \n  \n

SUMMARY:Purple Piano: Prince Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 27 August 2021\, 7:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nNearly five years after the pop music icon Prince’s untimely death\, Marshall Charloff has created a unique one-man tribute dedicated to the artistry and music of the legendary Prince called The Purple Piano. \nIn January 2016\, at age 57\, Prince began what would ultimately become his last tour entitled “the Piano & a Microphone.” The tour was a series of solo shows that featured just him\, his purple piano\, and an incredible discography of songs. \nOn January 21\, 2016\, the first performance was played to a small crowd at Paisley Park; and followed with an album “the Piano & a Microphone 1983.” \nThe Purple Piano\, created by Marshall Charloff\, is a heartfelt and intimate tribute to these very unique performances. \nMarshall Charloff has performed nationwide fronting world-class symphonies in most major cities in the US and Canada\, played keys in the Atlanta Rhythm Section\, and since 2011\, tours fronting the celebrated Purple xPeRIeNCE – arguably the greatest tribute to Prince in the world\, and co-founded by Matt “Doctor” Fink from Prince & the Revolution. \nMarshall is featured on recordings with Prince on the album 94 East\, where he plays both keyboards and bass guitar\, and recently collaborated with Prince’s sister Sharon Nelson to co-write and record “Colours.” Pepe Willie\, who discovered Marshall\, was also responsible for getting Prince’s career up and running. \nThe Purple Piano includes hits “Purple Rain”\, “Raspberry Beret”\, “Little Red Corvette”\, “Kiss”\, “1999”\, “Let’s Go Crazy”\, “Darling Nikki”\, “Most Beautiful Girl”\, and many more in a hauntingly sexy intimate piano and microphone only performance. \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/purple-piano/

SUMMARY:Max & Heather Stalling
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 28 August 2021\, 7:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/max-stalling/ \nTexas based songwriter\, Max Stalling\, had no expectation of ever being in the music business. “I didn’t even pick up a guitar until graduate school\,” notes Stalling. After attending high school in South Texas\, Stalling studied at Texas A&M – College Station\, where he earned a masters degree in Food Science. He followed the corporate road from there and eventually landed in Dallas working in product development for Frito-Lay. \nDuring this time\, Stalling discovered the Three Teardrops Tavern and Dallas community radio station KNON. These outlets exposed a musical heritage to which Stalling had been nearly oblivious. Inspired by artists like Townes Van Zandt\, Robert Earl Keen\, Guy Clark\, Lyle Lovett\, and Jerry Jeff Walker\, Stalling started writing songs\, recording albums\, and eventually touring with a full band to back him. Sixty thousand CDs later\, Stalling joined musical greats Kris Kristofferson\, Michael Nesmith of the Monkees\, Selena\, Guy Clark and many others when he received a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi. Stalling plays about 150 shows a year and is in the third year of a Budweiser sponsorship. His song “Scars and Souvenirs” was used as the title for an episode of Grey’s Anatomy in 2007 and he is featured on the CW Network’s Troubadour\, TX television series. He is a former member of the Board of Governors for the Texas Chapter of NARAS and has been lucky enough to share the stage with most of the artists that inspired him to start writing in the first place. \nStalling’s style is modern with a vintage feel. With Jeff Howe on drums and percussion\, Clay Willis on guitar\, and Jason Steinsultz swapping between upright and electric bass\, Stalling creates a dynamic live show that’s smart\, charming and as listenable as it is danceable. Stalling and troupe are equally at home on a huge concert stage in front of thousands or playing an acoustic set for a hundred. Attendance numbers at shows have continued to rise. “I chalk it up to the strength of the songs and the strength of my band”\, comments Max. \nDespite playing the same circuit as many household names in Texas country\, grouping Stalling with them would be premature. His unique voice and amusingly clever song lyrics pull him in a different direction – a direction most obviously evident in his newest record Home to You. \nStalling put together an elite team for his newest project\, including recording heavyweight and Grammy winner Lloyd Maines. Maines has been instrumental in developing the sounds of some of the best artists in music and has worked with industry giants including the Dixie Chicks\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, and Bruce Robison. Band members Steinsultz and Howe are featured prominently on the recordings as well as Stalling’s wife Heather. “I’m very proud of the life that everyone has given these songs\,” says Max. “They poured their hearts and souls into this project and I think people will be wowed by what they can do.” \nHome to You may be the best and most well rounded collection of songs that Stalling has released to date. It has earned Stalling a Best Album and Best Male Vocal nomination for the 2011 Lonestar Music Awards as well as his first #1 single on the Texas Regional Radio Report. The album has been a top seller at Lonestar Music since its release and the first single “I Aint Drinking Alone” was #14 on the Radio Free Texas 100 Most Requested Songs of 2010 list. The opening track\, which Stalling released as his second single\, is an unexpected tune borrowed from Austin music fixture Bob Schneider. “Long Way to Get” quickly rose to #3 on the Texas MusicChart. With songs about love\, love lost\, and the road\, the album is a perfect candidate for the repeat button on any music player. The collection wraps up with\, “The Fantasy Dinner\,” a light- hearted\, story song that captures Stalling’s creative mind in a way that will keep the listener intrigued and singing along by the second chorus. Matched with master musicianship and production\, this album will keep your foot tapping\, heart pounding\, and dancing shoes worn. \nHome to You was released August 17\, 2010\, following four previous studio projects (Topaz City\, 2008; Comfort In the Curves\, 1997; Wide Afternoon\, 2000; One of the Ways\, 2002) and two live releases (Sell-Out\, 2006; Live From The Granada CD/DVD 2009). Home to You was self- released on the Blind Nello Records label.

SUMMARY:Austin Meade
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 10 September 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages]\nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/austin-meade-10sep2021/\n\nOn Black Sheep\, Austin Meade delivers songs and stories that\, like the young singer/guitarist himself\, are contradictory yet cohesive.\n\nHis influences—musical and otherwise—are as varied and rich as the small-town Texas soil that nurtured his talent\, yielding 12 stellar songs ranging from the insinuating multi-layered musicality and storytelling of “Déjà Vu” to the dark alt-pop of “Happier Alone\,” and on further to the new-age\, Sabbath-inspired “Dopamine Drop. ”Thanks to his metal-and classic-rock loving dad\, Meade got to see bands like Judas Priest and worshipped Whitesnake. \nIn junior high he related to the intense emo-rock of Paramore and Fall Out Boy\, and the power of songwriters like John Mayer. Yet\, thanks top lain spoken but deep heartland songwriters like Tom Petty\, and cutting his teeth touring in the Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt scene\, Meade’s music overflows with wide-open soulfulness. He was a drummer for years\, even teaching to pay the bills\, but Meade found his true voice when he began playing guitar as a teen in his pastor-father’s church. Those experiences lend both a gravitas and rebelliousness to Meade’s songs and self. The songs on Black Sheep\, produced by Taylor Kimball (Koe Wetzel\, Read Southall\, Kody West) are instantly memorable\, but far from simplistic. \nMeade challenges the status quo\, both musically and lyrically. “I like to question those standard math formulas\,” he explains. “What if we just add two more lines and make somebody feel uncomfortable here\, ’because the song itself is about being uncomfortable?” And within a song—and video—like “Déjà Vu\,” Meade explores the cyclical\, Groundhog Day-like nature of a month—or lifetime—of Sundays. Throughout school\, “I was one of the weird kids who actually liked writing class. I would describe ridiculous stuff\, and in elementary school I was a Harry Potter nerd. I’d get lost in those books\,” he remembers. Soon\, though\, records became his new sanctuary. “I started to hear songwriters that were telling stories in three to five minutes; concepts and ideas that were not only spanning just that one song. \nOne of my favorite lyricists is Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys; the way he describes things\, you can almost touch it or smell it. ”Likewise\, on Black Sheep\, Meade’s vivid descriptions are palpable and immersive. They paint a picture the listener can step into\, like taking a journey through “two-lane highways and speed-trap towns ”that Meade traverses in “Déjà Vu.” “That’s my goal\,” he explains. “To make people feel like they’re in the room with the stories in my songs; they’re within that experience. ”Meade’s carefully crafted songs manage to be profound and provocative\, sonically suited for both dive bars and arenas. From these is mic guitars and painfully honest lyrics of a song like “Dopamine Drop” to the mournful\, lilting nostalgia and hard reality of “Settle Down” and on through the fantasy of “handwritten letters\, candle-wax seal\, Midwest American feel” in “Cave In\,” it is clear Meade’s ambitions and dreams are weighty.

SUMMARY:Kyle Nix & the 38's
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 11 September 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/kyle-nix-11sep2021/?pk=228d557b2397368a491890859cce3855879b3baf9a5b0f93d68cff84cc09d761 \nAfter years of playing fiddle with the Oklahoma-based country outfit the Turnpike Troubadours\, Kyle Nix has emerged with a new role on his debut solo album\, Lightning on the Mountain & Other Short Stories. You will hear most of the Troubadours roaring as his backing band on the record but this isn’t an uninspired spin-off or half-baked reboot of a good thing. Lightning on the Mountain has an identity entirely it’s own- a western-inspired collection of literary songs\, which tell stories from Nix’s own history as well as of the many unique characters he “may or may not have encountered” throughout his years on the road. \nOriginally from Perry\, Oklahoma\, Kyle Nix grew up literally surrounded by musical instruments. His grandfather was a carpenter and part-time fiddle maker. “As a kid\, the fiddles were off limits because they were breakable\, delicate… that just made me want to mess with them more”\, he laughs. Eventually\, though\, he got his hands on the instrument and began taking lessons in Enid\, Oklahoma from bluegrass fiddler Shirley Landrum. “I was lucky that my parents were willing to drive me around to lessons & bluegrass festivals. It really helped fan the flame”\, he remembers. \nNix’s involvement with the Turnpike Troubadours was an entirely organic process. The band had just formed when he happened to run across Evan Felker and RC Edwards at a co-billed show. “I remember thinking\, ‘man I really like what they’re doing. I should probably be doing that\, too!’” he laughs. Not long after that\, Kyle\, Evan and singer-songwriter Clint Osmus moved into a house a stone’s throw away from Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater\, Oklahoma. They played music as often as they could\, usually only pausing to go to work. Eventually\, Nix quit the band he was a part of and joined up with the Troubadours. It was during this time that he fell in love with songwriting and was inspired to write more of his own tunes. “It was around those guys that I first heard John Prine and Townes Van Zandt songs. I remember thinking\, ‘Wow\, I’ve been missing out on alot’” Nix says. “It really lit a fire inside me. I wanted to learn how to tell a story like those guys” \nHe says of the album’s theme\, “I’ve really gotten into short stories these past few years. You have to sum your ideas up quicker- really trim the fat. I like what they do”. With that in mind\, he wanted to treat his album as a series of short stories; all encompassed by a Spaghetti Western theme. “I’m into Ennio Morricone (composer). He composed a ton of classic western soundtracks. On the record I applied the “spaghetti western” theme with instrumentals to imply a front cover\, a back cover & picture pages… a short story collection”. \nThe stories on “Lightning On The Mountain” range from shoot-outs in Michigan (Wolf At the Door)\, to love-sick ballads of the south (Sweet Delta Rose). Nix’s gritty\, down-home vocals take a fearless lead role\, energetically and tastefully supported by his bandmates Ryan Engleman\, Gabe Pearson\, RC Edwards & Hank Early . The album was recorded and co-produced by Wes Sharon (John Fulbright\, Parker Milsap\, Turnpike Troubadours) in Norman\, Oklahoma\, and also features special guest musicians Ian Moore\, Byron Berline\, Kevin Foster (Jason Eady\, Sunny Sweeny)\, Dan Walker (Ann Wilson\, Heart) & many more. \nAlthough Nix’s gritty\, driving fiddle playing is not to be missed\, he has shown a whole new side of his musicianship with Lightning on the Mountain & other Short Stories. Profound moments of everyday life are framed with fierce\, no-nonsense country drive and polished with a cinematic touch. Now that Nix has shown all his cards\, it may be hard for him to return to his role as exclusively a fiddle player\, and there is no doubt that this album is merely the tip of the iceberg with regard to his writing and singing chops.
