SUMMARY:Little Joe Y La Familia
DESCRIPTION:The traditional Tex-Mex style of norteño was fused by Little Joe (born Jose Maria DeLeon Hernandez) with influences of country music\, blues\, and rock to create the up tempo hybrid known as “Tejano.” Together with his band\, Little Joe Y La Familia\, his music has reached far beyond the Texas and Mexico borders and has been one of the most popular Tex-Mex bands in the music industry. Little Joe has been entertaining more than 50 years and has been described as the “KING OF THE BROWN SOUND”. \nJose Maria DeLeon Hernandez “Little Joe” was born to Salvador “La Cotorra” Hernandez and Amelia DeLeon Hernandez in a three wall dirt floor car garage in Temple\, Texas on a cold stormy night on October 17\,1940. The seventh of 13 children\, Little Joe began playing music in 1953 with his cousin David Coronado’s band\, David Coronado & the Latinaires. Two years later\, he performed his first paid gig with the band at a high-school sock hop in Cameron\, Texas. In 1958\, Little Joe made his recording debut with the song “Safari\,” released by Torrero Records in Corpus Christi\, Texas. The following year\, Little Joe’s brother Jesse joined the band on bass and vocals. When Coronado left shortly afterwards\, Little Joe assumed leadership of the group. Throughout the early ’60s\, Little Joe led the band through a series of recordings on small independent labels. He underwent a personal transformation after Jesse died in an automobile accident in 1964. Determined to achieve commercial success\, he altered his musical approach to include more rock and blues influences. \nSongs of the Polka King\, Vol. 1 In 1968\, Little Joe formed two labels of his own: Buena Suerte for recordings in Spanish\, and Good Luck for recordings in English. He later added a third label\, Leona Records. His musical approach shifted again in 1970. After performing in the San Francisco Bay Area\, he became enchanted by “Latinismo” and changed the name of his band again. In 1985\, Little Joe y la Familia signed their first major-label recording deal with WEA International. Two years later\, Little Joe formed his fourth label — Redneck — and released the double live album 25th Silver Anniversary. After releasing two albums for WEA\, Little Joe switched to Sony International\, where he remained until 1983\, when he launched his fifth label\, Tejano Discos. His first release on the label\, “Que Paso\,” earned him his third Grammy nomination. In 1996\, Little Joe performed on the Frankie Yankovic album Songs of the Polka King\, Vol.1\, singing a duet with Yankovic of “Just Because/Si Porque.” Little Joe has appeared in two films: Proposition 187\, a Deadly Law and Down for the Barrio. \nFifty Years…and over 50 albums later\, Joe continues to tour the world\, trailblazing\, looking forward to new challenges\, breaking down cultural and musical barriers and innovating his musical style. As always\, Joe strives to bring many people together to make a more peaceful and harmonious world. \n\n\nREAD LESS

SUMMARY:Styx LIVE in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Creating and recording new music is often considered the lifeblood of any band—an ethos AOR torchbearers Styx continue to embody with the release of Circling From Above\, the 18th studio album in their formidable catalog. Spanning 13 tracks\, the album navigates the complexities of the human experience through the intersecting lenses of technology and nature. \nThe album\, the band’s third in eight years\, delivers a 41-minute\, end-to-end listening experience that is both thought-provoking and exhilarating. A masterclass in storytelling\, it blends signature Styx hallmarks with bold steps forward—building on the creative momentum of recent releases The Mission(2017) and Crash of the Crown(2021).

SUMMARY:The Next Generation Leahy
DESCRIPTION:As with all forces of nature\, the music and energy created by The Next Generation Leahy simply cannot be contained. The drive to create music is powerful within each of the Leahy children. It has given rise to multi-instrumental talents\, whose dynamic live performances have been described as “astounding” and “breath-taking.” \nFor the last several years\, Next Generation Leahy has performed across North America\, and shared the stage with the likes of The Chieftains\, We Banjo 3\, The Tenors\, and Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy. With one CD under their belt\, they are working on new material for a new CD to be released in 2019. \nBelying their young ages\, these siblings are all accomplished multi-instrumentalists whose live performances are filled with the high-energy\, infectious music associated with the Leahy name. However\, not content to play only the music of their Celtic heritage\, these musicians explore many genres of music and pull influences from far and wide. Fiddle\, cello\, French accordion\, singing\, piano\, and French-Canadian step-dancing serve to bring their unique style of music to life. \nThe music that lives in each of these young people – which is so joyful\, so positive\, and so rare – overflows from them and affects audiences who have witnessed something truly unique and remarkable.

SUMMARY:The Limeliters
DESCRIPTION:For more than 60 years the Limeliters have entertained audiences from coast to coast with their soaring vocal harmonies and screwball sense of humor. They first made their mark in folk clubs and on college campuses during the height of the folk music boom of the early 60’s. Before long\, founding members Alex Hassilev\, Lou Gottlieb and Glenn Yarbrough emerged as one of the dominant voices of the early 1960’s folk music scene. \nA string of best-selling albums for RCA Records and frequent appearances on dozens of major TV shows quickly made them a household name. For three years they were the musical representatives for Coca-Cola\, and their rendition of the jingle “Things Go Better with Coke” became a national hit. \nTime Magazine summed up their appeal with the following memorable quote: “If the button down scrubbed looking Kingston Trio are the undergraduates of big-time folk singing\, The Limeliters are the faculty.”  \nOver the years\, the lineup of the group has featured several spectacularly talented new members\, but The Limeliters have never deviated from the integrity of the fabulous sound that they pioneered and they are still one of the most exciting and entertaining vocal acts touring the country.

SUMMARY:Chamber Chorale: "Old American Songs"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Brad Light\, Chorale Director\nDr. Erica Rumbley\, Pianist \n$25 General Admission\, Students $12\nPURCHASE TICKETS ONLINE\n800-514-3849 \nThis program offers a window into the roots of American musical identity\, drawing on folk hymns\, early sacred music\, and spirituals that emerged from communities rather than concert halls. These songs—passed down through oral tradition\, shaped by regional practices\, and grounded in shared experience—capture a uniquely direct and expressive musical language. From the stark\, modal contours of early New England psalmody to the flowing lyricism of folk-derived melodies\, this repertoire reflects a nation finding its voice through simplicity\, sincerity\, and collective song. \nSeveral highlights illuminate the breadth and depth of that tradition. The music of William Billings stands as one of the earliest expressions of a distinctly American compositional style\, while later arrangers like Alice Parker and Robert Shaw bring renewed clarity and vitality to traditional hymnody and spirituals. The contributions of Florence Price and Moses Hogan highlight the enduring power and emotional depth of the spiritual tradition\, transforming these songs into compelling concert works that retain their deep sense of authenticity and purpose. \nThe program concludes with the music of Aaron Copland\, whose settings of folk material helped define a modern American sound—one that honors its roots while embracing a broader\, more expansive musical landscape. In “The Promise of Living” from The Tender Land\, Copland brings together many of the program’s central themes—community\, labor\, and hope—into a broad\, luminous conclusion. Taken together\, these works invite us to hear not just a collection of pieces\, but a living tradition—one that continues to resonate with clarity\, strength\, and a shared sense of purpose. \nI. \nWyndham\nDaniel Read (1757 – 1836)\, arr.
