SUMMARY:Tierra and Malo
DESCRIPTION:Tierra was named “Best R&B Vocal Group” by four leading magazines\, including Billboard. They started their career in East Los Angeles with a blend of rock\, pop\, jazz\, R&B and salsa. The result was a Latin R&B rhythm which produced classics like “Together\,” “Gonna Find Her\,” “Memories” and “Zoot Suit Boogie.” Founded in 1972\, the band has performed internationally and continues to perform with their unique smooth and soulful sounds. Throughout Tierra’s history\, Rudy Salas has been\, and continues to be\, the leader of the band. \nTierra was the first Latino band to have four songs on the national chart and two simultaneously in the Top 100. They have performed in such prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall\, The American Music Awards\, and more. \nTierra is widely known to have played a role in opening doors for other Latino and non-Latino superstars of today\, including comedian Paul Rodriguez\, Arsenio Hall\, Sheila E\, Gloria Estefan\, Los Lobos\, and more. \nMalo is known if its blend of Latino\, Rock\, Jazz and blues. The band had a humongous hit with the single “Suavecito\,” which became a low-rider classic\, and has gone on to release several albums. \nPlease contact The Ector Theatre at 432-653-1246 for additional information

SUMMARY:ALICE COOPER
DESCRIPTION:Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock.  Drawing equally from horror movies\, vaudeville\, and garage rock\, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs\, guillotines\, fake blood and boa constrictors. He continues to tour regularly\, performing shows worldwide with the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he’s best known for. \nCooper was discovered in 1969 by Frank Zappa in Los Angeles\, where he signed them to his record label.  Their collaboration with young record producer Bob Ezrin led to the break-through third album “Love It to Death” which hit the charts in 1971\, followed by “Killer\,” “School’s Out\,” ”Billion Dollar Babies\,” and “Muscle of Love.”  Each new album release was accompanied by a bigger and more elaborate touring stage show.  1974 saw the release of a “Greatest Hits” album\, and then Cooper\, in 1975\, released his first solo album\, “Welcome to My Nightmare” in 1975\, accompanied by the legendary groundbreaking theatrical Welcome to My Nightmare concert tour. \nWith his influence on rock & roll and popular culture long since acknowledged\, there is little that Alice Cooper hasn’t achieved in his remarkable career\, including platinum albums\, sold-out tours and any number of honors and career achievement awards.

SUMMARY:Silverton Powerhouse Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Midland College Art Department invites you to experience works by the Silverton\, Colorado Powerhouse Art Guild.  The exhibit is displayed August 21-September 29 in the Allison Fine Arts Building McCormick Gallery.  Gallery hours are 8:00 am-9:00 pm\, Monday through Friday and 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Friday.  There is no fee to view the exhibit. \n \nThe Silverton Powerhouse Art Guild is an eclectic group of artists who’s mutual purpose is the aesthetic\, educational and cultural betterment of the surrounding community. Operating out of Silverton’s historic powerhouse building in the iconic San Juan Mountain Range\, the Powerhouse Art guild represents a creative presence that offers a variety of unique content–not just active ceramics production from occupant members\, but academically immersive opportunities for local inhabitants\, such as pottery master classes and regular resident guest artists. \nThe Powerhouse Art Guild seeks to further the positive creative trajectory that is intent on making Silverton\, Colorado even more of an artistic\, cultural destination. \nABOUT THE POWERHOUSE \nThe Silverton Powerhouse was built in 1906 as a first-of-its-kind\, centralized power station for mines across the San Juan Mountains. Using hydroelectric power generated by the Animas River in Rockwood Canyon\, the Powerhouse was the transfer station that supplied mines from Silverton and Telluride to Ouray with reliable power. \nAfter the Sunnyside Mine closed in 1991\, the Powerhouse was abandoned and suffered damage. In 2001\, the Silverton Historical Society received grant funding to bring the Powerhouse back to life\, and it was repaired brick by brick. Scotty Bob’s Ski Factory moved into the Powerhouse\, starting the movement of bringing modern businesses into the Powerhouse. \n \nIn February of 2022\, Hannah Green\, a Silverton\, Colorado local\, expeditionary\, runner\, photographer and writer dreamed of turning the once-again vacant Powerhouse into a lively\, community space for the artists and makers of Silverton. Hannah signed the lease in 2021 and has created a team of local visionaries and makers — Anne Chase\, Julian Hood\, Hillary Cable and Emily Thorn — who have pulled the building up by its bootstraps and turned it into a usable space for artists and for community events\, such as live music\, fat-tire bike races\, chili cook-offs\, and art workshops. \nThe potential of the Powerhouse as a community maker space and venue is astounding. The Silverton community backs the vision to continue improving the building to better support studio space and expand the quality and types of events that the space can host. The Silverton Powerhouse still needs help to get there\, but can become a healthy business that is committed to the betterment of the Silverton\, Colorado community and economy. \n \nThe vision behind this project comes from the age-old saying\, “See a need\, fill a need.” The Powerhouse is a very special space with a great mission. The Powerhouse enhances Silverton’s accessibility to a creative space that fosters engagement and creativity.  It is an undeniable asset for this small-town community.

SUMMARY:John Waite with John Ford Coley
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a musical journey when classic songs reflected our moment in time. Legendary John Waite and John Ford Coley are coming to Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center for one night only\, Thursday\, August 24\, 2023. A night of classic music and a night you won’t forget! \nPresented locally by 97 Gold. \nAbout John Waite \nJohn will be performing his catalog of hits from his 40-year career as a solo artist\, with The Baby’s and Bad English. \nJohn Waite’s catalog of hits features some of the most loved songs of the 80s and 90s – the #1 Worldwide hit ‘Missing You’\, The Baby’s ‘Isn’t It Time’ and Bad English’s ‘When I See You Smile’ rank amongst some of his biggest international hits and are still heard on the radio today.  Others include ‘Tears’\, ‘Change’ and ‘These Times Are Hard For Lovers’. ‘Every Step Of The Way’ and ‘If Anybody Had A Heart’ appeared on the soundtrack to the 1986 Demi Moore film About Last Night. ‘Deal for Life’\, penned by Martin Page and Bernie Taupin\, was featured in the Days Of Thunder soundtrack. \nAs a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Baby’s and Bad English\, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the ’70s and ’80s. John Waite had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock\, occasionally touching on new wave-styled power pop as well. \nAbout John Ford Coley \nThere are songs you hear in your life that transport you to a certain time period or give you a special feeling.  You associate those good times with the group that made them famous.  Songs like “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight\,” “Nights Are Forever Without You” and “Love Is The Answer” have that kind of effect on people. Those songs and numerous others have made John Ford Coley a singing legend. He has spent decades touring\, writing\, recording\, and producing. \nJohn is most revered as half of the Grammy nominated duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. He continues with an active roster performing the platinum and gold record hits for audiences around the world. Classically trained on piano and a n avid guitarist\, John loves the craft and enjoys every audience he encounters.
