SUMMARY:Con Cariño Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Guadalupe Hernandez is a Texas-based artist who earned his MFA from Houston Baptist University in 2021. Hernandez was born in San Miguel de Allende\, Mexico\, before relocating to Pleasanton\, TX\, a small city south of San Antonio\, in 1998. Despite the move to the United States\, Hernandez maintained a deep connection to his Mexican heritage and customs through time-honored familial traditions. \nThis exhibit pays homage to his parents who left their homeland in search of a brighter future for their family. The accompanying pieces in this collection weave together fragments of their journey and the various forms of labor they undertook to provide their children with the opportunities they were denied. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCon Cariño translates to\n“with love” or\n“with care”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nCentral to Hernandez’s practice is the use of chisels and punches\, which wield a dual significance in this body of work. The physicality of using the chisel—he believes—mirrors the repetitive and labor-intensive endeavors of his parents. The level of skill\, precision\, and care required to produce these delicate designs serve as a visual representation of his love and admiration for the sacrifices his parents made.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA few of Hernandez’s most recent accomplishments include the Nest Heritage Craft Prize for his efforts to preserve and push forward the Mexican folk art tradition of Papel Picado and being a visiting artist for the Art Students League of Denver. He was also notably among six pairs of visual artists in the 2022 US Latinx Art Forum Mentorship Program\, supporting an intergenerational skill exchange. He has also participated in artist residencies with institutions such as the Asia Society Texas Center and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCon Cariño will be on display at the Ellen Noël Art Museum from August 23rd\, 2024 – December 1st\, 2024.  \nThe Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon until 5pm\, extended hours on Thursdays until 8pm. \nAdmission is always free.

DESCRIPTION:MALEVO – the “South American Sensation” – was created by director\, choreographer\, and dancer\, Matías Jaime. The Company has reenvisioned the Argentine dance of Malambo; taking what is a traditional Argentinian folkloric dance performed originally by Gauchos of the Pampas region and elevating it to a modern\, avant-garde\, and transgressive vision. \nWhile maintaining the great virility and dexterity of Malambo\, the Company has elevated this traditional dance by fusing its classic technique with other styles such as Flamenco\, and incorporating live percussion onstage. \nSet to a pulsating rhythm of drums\, the choreography combines the use of boleadoras\, a leather and stone hunting tool used by Gauchos\, with fast leg movements\, energetic zapateados (stomping)\, and quick cepillados (“brushing”/”scrubbing”). \nExciting and dynamic shows where the dancers created a performance that not only pushes the Malambo style beyond its limits but gives audiences an extraordinary visual and sensory experience unlike any other. \nAfter being named “Cultural Ambassador of the National Identity of Argentina” and achieving numerous successes\, including  shows and performances in Las Vegas\, New York\, Dubai\, Paris\, Qatar\, France\, Montecarlo\, Spain\, Saint Petersburg\, Canada\, London\, and Moscow\, as well as special invitation to participate with  Cirque du Soleil\,  creates malambo choreographies for the Las Vegas Show of the Latin pop star Ricky Martin\,a year-long season of performances at Universal Studios\, Osaka\,  Japan\, Shows in Norwegian Cruise Line\, and reaching the semi-finalists on the hit television show America’s Got Talent. \nThe company  performed in Festivals \, such as ¨Juste Pour Rire¨ and ¨Le Incroyable¨ (Canada)\, ¨La France a un Incroyable Talent¨ (France)\, and the most important Festivals in the world: Global Village (Dubai)\, Santa Lucía Festival (Mexico)\, Lollapalooza (Argentina)\, Dance Open (Russia)\, Gastronomic Culinary Festival (Spain)\, Montecarlo  Anniversary 22 Historique Rally  (MonteCarlo)\, «Festival de Circo (Argentina)\, Norwegian Cruise Line\, and more. \nThe Sony Latinoamerica channel filmed a special program with the name ¨Malevo has talent ¨ broadcast for Spanish-speaking viewers. DESCRIPTION:Nurse Blake is a nurse\, creator\, advocate\, touring comedian\, viral sensation and so much more. From nursing school to the bedsides of patients\, Nurse Blake uses his unique experiences for a fun-filled comedy event that celebrates the hard work of healthcare providers. He is truly a one-of-a-kind entertainer with a career pivot not even he could have expected! \nFrom an early age\, he knew he wanted to be a Nurse and started working as a patient transporter at 17. Nurse Blake graduated BSN in 2014 from UCF in Orlando\, Florida. As an advocate from the beginning\, he was also the President of the Florida Nursing Student Association. \nIn 2013\, Nurse Blake started Banned4Life to end the permanent FDA gay blood ban\, which ultimately contributed to the lifetime ban being lifted in 2015. Driven by an intense desire to effect meaningful change in healthcare\, Nurse Blake’s commitment extends beyond policy work. He shares his personal narrative with remarkable candor\, embodying transparency and courage. \nImmediately after graduating\, Blake jumped right into what he thought would be his forever career\, working in level 1 trauma centers around the country in a variety of nursing roles. Unbeknownst to him\, his interest in social media that had developed during school would shift his career 180 degrees. \nNurse Blake began creating Facebook videos as a way to de-stress and share his nursing experience in a comedic way. Hailed “a genuine phenomenon” by The New York Times\, Blake Lynch as @NurseBlake went viral and connected nurses and nursing students together from around the world\, currently entertaining nearly 4M followers on social media. Fans worldwide know Nurse Blake from his viral videos and now he takes his comedy to the stages around the world bringing nurses together through his humor and inspiration.
