SUMMARY:Interweaving A Solo Exhibition by Hamed Edalati Tabrizi
DESCRIPTION:“Interweaving” \nA Solo Exhibition by Hamed Edalati Tabrizi\, graphic design faculty member at UTPB. \nThis exhibition examines the intricate interplay of identity\, language\, and cultural migration through the lens of graphic design. As a graphic designer\, Hamed pushes the boundaries of the medium\, transforming the foundational elements of design—line\, shape and type—into a dynamic exploration of cultural exchange and adaptation. Drawing inspiration from ancient motifs of the Islamic era in Iran and the geometric patterns of the ancient West\, the works interweave these historical designs with a modern\, minimalistic approach. The exhibition features interactive installations\, inviting viewers to navigate the complexities of cultural dislocation\, language acquisition\, and self-discovery. \nMirrors play a central role in his exhibition\, symbolizing self-reflection and the merging of multiple perspectives. The minimalist yet profound aesthetic draws attention to the nuanced balance between identity and transformation. By juxtaposing light\, movement\, and poetic forms\, the works encourage viewers to uncover hidden layers\, both within the art and within themselves\, fostering moments of personal and collective understanding. Through this immersive experience\, Interweaving celebrates the enduring connection to one’s roots while embracing the transformative possibilities of cultural exchange.

SUMMARY:UTPB Music Presents Jazz Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:The UTPB Jazz Kettle will be hosting internationally celebrated musicians Willie Murillo and James Morrison for a concert on Monday\, March 3\, 2025. This will be an event that will benefit students at UTPB\, Odessa College\, and Midland College\, as well as community members. The Guest Artists will rehearse with community and college musicians on Sunday night\, speak to groups and individuals in private lessons and Master Classes on Monday\, and perform with jazz band members from UTPB\, OC\, MC and the greater Permian Basin community that evening at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center. \nThe magnitude of this experience cannot be overstated. Willie Murillo is an LA based trumpeter\, singer\, arranger\, and producer who visited UTPB last year for a similar residence. Everyone who was associated with that rehearsal/performance 2-day event left the experience exhilarated and edified. James Morrison is an Australia based multi-instrumentalist who has been called “the Genius of Jazz”. He and Mr. Murillo will be on multi-state tour across the nation\, and they are looking forward to spending a few days in the Permian Basin before moving on to other tour dates and locations. \nIncludes musicians from Odessa College\, UTPB Jazz Kettle\, and Midland College.
