SUMMARY:ZZ Top The Elevation Tour
DESCRIPTION:“That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” has been at it for well over a half century\, delivering rock\, blues and boogie on the road and in the studio to millions of devoted fans. With iconography as distinctive as their sound\, ZZ TOP is virtually synonymous with beards\, hotrod cars\, spinning guitars and that magic keychain\, all of which transcend geography and language. \nIt was in Houston in the waning days of 1969 that ZZ TOP coalesced from the core of two rival bands\, Billy Gibbons’ Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill’s American Blues. Their third album\, 1973’s Tres Hombres\, catapulted them to national attention with the hit “La Grange\,” still one of the band’s signature pieces today. Eliminator\, their 1983 album was something of a paradigm shift for ZZ TOP. Their roots blues skew was intact but added to the mix were tech-age trappings that soon found a visual outlet with such tracks as “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” on the nascent MTV. It was one of the music industry’s first albums to have been certified Diamond\, far beyond Gold and Platinum and a reflection of US domestic sales exceeding 10 million units. \nAs a touring entity\, they’ve been without peer over the past five decades\, having performed before millions of fans on four continents and have been the subject of their own Grammy-nominated documentary titled That Little Ol’ Band From Texas. The band’s line-up of the bearded Gibbons and Hill and Beard\, who ironically is clean shaven\, remained intact for more than 50 years until Dusty’s passing. When Dusty temporarily departed the tour in the summer of 2021\, it was a given that Elwood would be the perfect choice to stand in for Dusty until he could return. But Dusty’s return was not to be\, and Elwood continues to handle the bass duties for the band now and into the future. \nThe elements that keep ZZ TOP fresh\, enduring and above the transitory fray can be summed up in the three words of the band’s internal mantra: “Tone\, Taste and Tenacity.”. As genuine roots musicians\, they have few peers. Their influences are both the originators of the form – Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, et al – as well as the British blues rockers and Jimi Hendrix who emerged the generation before ZZ’s ascendance. \nThey have sold hundreds of millions of records over the course of their career\, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas\, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (by Keith Richards\, no less) and have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms. They are true rock icons and\, against all odds\, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. ZZ TOP abides!

SUMMARY:Globe Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FEARLESS FRIDAY of UNAPOLOGETIC ARTISTRY! \nThe Globe Theatre at Odessa College opens our stage to the energy and artistry of OC students\, faculty\, departments\, and clubs … collaborating alongside our Odessa/Midland community to fill the Globe with exploration\, creativity\, and passion. \nGLOBE NIGHT at Odessa College is time to share … anything: \n\nsinging and dancing\,\npoetry and storytelling\,\nphotography and film\,\npuppetry and magic tricks\,\nstand-up comedy and full-out drama\,\nculinary and horticulture … it’s all welcome!\n\n For the purposes of these guidelines\, people who share things at Globe Night in the form of live performances\, visual art\, etc. will be referred to as \n“Sharers.” Things that Sharers present to the Globe Night audience—including live performances\, visual art\, etc.—will be referred to as “Pieces.” \n• Sharers must fill out the Globe Night Sign-Up form and respond to follow-up/confirmation emails in order to share at Globe Night. Failure to respond to the confirmation email by 2 pm on the day of Globe Night may result in the Sharer having to wait until a subsequent Globe Night to share their Piece. \n• There are 15 live performance slots available per Globe Night. Sharers will be able to sign up for live performances until the 15 slots are filled or 2 pm on the day of Globe Night\, whichever comes first. \n• Live performances of Pieces must be kept at 5 minutes or less in length. \n• If applicable\, please make use of available microphones and sound amplification for the live performance of your Piece to ensure that it is accessible and can be clearly heard by all audience members. \n• In order to maintain Globe Night’s open atmosphere\, Pieces that explicitly and exclusively advocate for or disparage specific politicians\, political parties\, or political candidates will not be shared. \n• Sharers will not share at Globe Night while under the influence of alcohol\, drugs\, or other illicit substances. \n• Hate speech\, harassment\, and bullying of any kind—including targeting anyone based on race\, religion\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or any other personal identity—will not be tolerated. This goes for Sharers and audience members alike. \n• Pieces with nudity will not be shared. \n• Pieces involving the live performance of real violence will not be shared. This does not apply to Pieces that contain representations of violence (e.g.\, a written description of violence) or simulated violence (e.g.\, a scene containing stage combat). \n• As this is an Odessa College event\, both audience members and Sharers alike will be expected to adhere to the college’s guidelines and standards of conduct. \n• All contents of Globe Night Pieces represent the views of the individual Sharer(s) and not Odessa College. Odessa College is released from any liability or responsibility related to the content in Globe Night acts. \n• If you have any questions regarding these guidelines or the appropriateness of the contents of your Piece\, please email Brianna Dunston: brianna.r.dunston@gmail.com.
