SUMMARY:The Monkees Farewell Tour with Michael Nesmith & Micky Dolenz
DESCRIPTION:Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz of The Monkees will embark on their farewell tour in September 2021\, stopping by the Wagner Noël on September 27. Commemorating 55-years of Monkeemania\, the tour will embrace major markets in North America through the fall. Their critically acclaimed concerts feature the voice of Micky Dolenz (who sang The Monkees’ biggest hits: “I’m A Believer\,” “Last Train To Clarksville\,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday” and “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”) and the group’s primary songwriter\, Michael Nesmith (who wrote such classics as “Mary\, Mary\,” “Papa Gene’s Blues\,” “You Just May Be The One” and “Listen To The Band” to name but a few). This evening with The Monkees will feature songs that span the band’s entire career – from their 1966 self-titled debut album to 2016’s Good Times. Their most recent release – THE MONKEES –THE MIKE & MICKY SHOW LIVE – was issued in April 2020 and became their 17th Billboardcharting album release. In addition to their hits\, their farewell shows will spotlight songs featured on their Emmy-winning TV series (“The Girl I Knew Somewhere\,” “You Told Me\,” “Randy Scouse Git\,” “Goin’ Down” and “For Pete’s Sake”) as well as music from their feature film Head (“Circle Sky” and “As We Go Along”). Plus some rarely performed deep cuts (such as “Auntie’s Municipal Court”) and tracks from their most recent studio album\, 2016’s Good Times (“Me & Magdelena” and “Birth Of An Accidental Hipster”).This farewell tour will mark the end of a unique project that began in 1965 when four young men were cast in a television show about a struggling rock band that was inspired by the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. Few could have predicted the impact the Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large\, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later. \n  \nTickets: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/5309242/the-monkees-farewell-tour-midland-wagner-noel-performing-arts-center_CFC_WNweb \n

SUMMARY:Rob Schneider
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 18 September 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nRob Schneider is an accomplished actor\, comedian\, screenwriter and director. A stand-up comic and veteran of the award-winning NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live\, Schneider has gone on to a successful career in films\, television and continues his world-wide standup tour. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchneider’s first Netflix comedy special\, “Asian Momma\, Mexican Kids\,” premiered globally on August 11. Filmed in February the special gives viewers a look at Schneider’s family and personal life through hilarious anecdotes. The special ends with a surprise duet performance with Schneider’s daughter Elle King. \nBorn in San Francisco\, Schneider’s family is of Filipino and Caucasian descent. His father was Jewish and his mother Catholic. His mixed background has been a common theme in his comedy acts. Schneider started his stand-up career in high school opening for the popular San Francisco band “Head On\,” and was a regular guest on local radio. An opening slot for Dennis Miller garnered him an appearance on the HBO’s “13th Annual Young Comedians” special also hosted by Miller. The special led him to a coveted position as a writer for SNL in 1988. Schneider swiftly moved from a writer and featured player to a full cast member with a cast that included Adam Sandler\, Chris Rock\, David Spade and the late Chris Farley. \nAfter leaving SNL in 1994 Schneider went to roles in film and television including a starring role in the NBC sitcom “Men Behaving Badly\,” and starring roles in the feature films DEUCE BIGALOW: MALE GIGOLO\, THE ANIMAL\, THE HOT CHICK\, DEUCE BIGALOW: EUROPEAN GIGALOW and THE BENCHWARMERS. DEUCE BIGALOW: MALE GIGOLO has the distinction of being the second highest grossing DVD in the US in 2000. \nSchneider’s early film roles also include JUDGE DREDD\, DEMOLITION MAN\, BEVERLY HILLS HILLBILLIES and DOWN PERISCOPE. He also co-starred in numerous comedies that were some of the biggest films in the past twenty years\, including GROWNUPS\, THE WATERBOY\, LITTLE NICKY\, THE LONGEST YARD\, 50 FIRST DATES\, I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY\, YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN\, and narrated the animated film 8 CRAZY NIGHTS. He most recently appeared in Netflix’s THE WRONG MISSY and the upcoming HUBIE HALLOWEEN. \nOn television Schneider starred in the CBS comedy “Rob\,” loosely based on his real life. In 2015 he produced\, directed and starred in “Real Rob\,” that followed his life and co-starred his real-life wife Patricia and daughter Miranda for Netflix. “Real Rob” was a milestone for the comedian as he starred\, directed\, produced and financed the entire season. \nSchneider’s directorial debut was the comedy BIG STAN\, in which he also starred in the title role. In 2010 he released his first comedy album\, “Registered Offender\,” a collection of audio sketches and songs. That year Schneider also revived his stand-up career with an international tour and has continued to tour nationally and internationally ever since. \nMost recently\, Schneider launched his first ever podcast “See What Happens\,” available on streaming platforms. Hosted by Schneider and his wife Patricia Maya Schneider\, the weekly show features occasional guests-from the duo’s Hollywood friend to their gardener while dissecting show business\, their contrasting parenting methods\, jokes\, good food\, philosophy and more. New episodes begin airing in August. \nThe three-time Emmy nominated writer for SNL is having the best time of his life\, enjoying raising his 7 and 3 year old girls\, Miranda and Madeline\, with his wife Patricia. Schneider is also the father of singer/ songwriter Elle King.

SUMMARY:Kyle Nix & the 38's
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 11 September 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/kyle-nix-11sep2021/?pk=228d557b2397368a491890859cce3855879b3baf9a5b0f93d68cff84cc09d761 \nAfter years of playing fiddle with the Oklahoma-based country outfit the Turnpike Troubadours\, Kyle Nix has emerged with a new role on his debut solo album\, Lightning on the Mountain & Other Short Stories. You will hear most of the Troubadours roaring as his backing band on the record but this isn’t an uninspired spin-off or half-baked reboot of a good thing. Lightning on the Mountain has an identity entirely it’s own- a western-inspired collection of literary songs\, which tell stories from Nix’s own history as well as of the many unique characters he “may or may not have encountered” throughout his years on the road. \nOriginally from Perry\, Oklahoma\, Kyle Nix grew up literally surrounded by musical instruments. His grandfather was a carpenter and part-time fiddle maker. “As a kid\, the fiddles were off limits because they were breakable\, delicate… that just made me want to mess with them more”\, he laughs. Eventually\, though\, he got his hands on the instrument and began taking lessons in Enid\, Oklahoma from bluegrass fiddler Shirley Landrum. “I was lucky that my parents were willing to drive me around to lessons & bluegrass festivals. It really helped fan the flame”\, he remembers. \nNix’s involvement with the Turnpike Troubadours was an entirely organic process. The band had just formed when he happened to run across Evan Felker and RC Edwards at a co-billed show. “I remember thinking\, ‘man I really like what they’re doing. I should probably be doing that\, too!’” he laughs. Not long after that\, Kyle\, Evan and singer-songwriter Clint Osmus moved into a house a stone’s throw away from Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater\, Oklahoma. They played music as often as they could\, usually only pausing to go to work. Eventually\, Nix quit the band he was a part of and joined up with the Troubadours. It was during this time that he fell in love with songwriting and was inspired to write more of his own tunes. “It was around those guys that I first heard John Prine and Townes Van Zandt songs. I remember thinking\, ‘Wow\, I’ve been missing out on alot’” Nix says. “It really lit a fire inside me. I wanted to learn how to tell a story like those guys” \nHe says of the album’s theme\, “I’ve really gotten into short stories these past few years. You have to sum your ideas up quicker- really trim the fat. I like what they do”. With that in mind\, he wanted to treat his album as a series of short stories; all encompassed by a Spaghetti Western theme. “I’m into Ennio Morricone (composer). He composed a ton of classic western soundtracks. On the record I applied the “spaghetti western” theme with instrumentals to imply a front cover\, a back cover & picture pages… a short story collection”. \nThe stories on “Lightning On The Mountain” range from shoot-outs in Michigan (Wolf At the Door)\, to love-sick ballads of the south (Sweet Delta Rose). Nix’s gritty\, down-home vocals take a fearless lead role\, energetically and tastefully supported by his bandmates Ryan Engleman\, Gabe Pearson\, RC Edwards & Hank Early . The album was recorded and co-produced by Wes Sharon (John Fulbright\, Parker Milsap\, Turnpike Troubadours) in Norman\, Oklahoma\, and also features special guest musicians Ian Moore\, Byron Berline\, Kevin Foster (Jason Eady\, Sunny Sweeny)\, Dan Walker (Ann Wilson\, Heart) & many more. \nAlthough Nix’s gritty\, driving fiddle playing is not to be missed\, he has shown a whole new side of his musicianship with Lightning on the Mountain & other Short Stories. Profound moments of everyday life are framed with fierce\, no-nonsense country drive and polished with a cinematic touch. Now that Nix has shown all his cards\, it may be hard for him to return to his role as exclusively a fiddle player\, and there is no doubt that this album is merely the tip of the iceberg with regard to his writing and singing chops.

SUMMARY:Austin Meade
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, 10 September 2021\, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages]\nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/austin-meade-10sep2021/\n\nOn Black Sheep\, Austin Meade delivers songs and stories that\, like the young singer/guitarist himself\, are contradictory yet cohesive.\n\nHis influences—musical and otherwise—are as varied and rich as the small-town Texas soil that nurtured his talent\, yielding 12 stellar songs ranging from the insinuating multi-layered musicality and storytelling of “Déjà Vu” to the dark alt-pop of “Happier Alone\,” and on further to the new-age\, Sabbath-inspired “Dopamine Drop. ”Thanks to his metal-and classic-rock loving dad\, Meade got to see bands like Judas Priest and worshipped Whitesnake. \nIn junior high he related to the intense emo-rock of Paramore and Fall Out Boy\, and the power of songwriters like John Mayer. Yet\, thanks top lain spoken but deep heartland songwriters like Tom Petty\, and cutting his teeth touring in the Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt scene\, Meade’s music overflows with wide-open soulfulness. He was a drummer for years\, even teaching to pay the bills\, but Meade found his true voice when he began playing guitar as a teen in his pastor-father’s church. Those experiences lend both a gravitas and rebelliousness to Meade’s songs and self. The songs on Black Sheep\, produced by Taylor Kimball (Koe Wetzel\, Read Southall\, Kody West) are instantly memorable\, but far from simplistic. \nMeade challenges the status quo\, both musically and lyrically. “I like to question those standard math formulas\,” he explains. “What if we just add two more lines and make somebody feel uncomfortable here\, ’because the song itself is about being uncomfortable?” And within a song—and video—like “Déjà Vu\,” Meade explores the cyclical\, Groundhog Day-like nature of a month—or lifetime—of Sundays. Throughout school\, “I was one of the weird kids who actually liked writing class. I would describe ridiculous stuff\, and in elementary school I was a Harry Potter nerd. I’d get lost in those books\,” he remembers. Soon\, though\, records became his new sanctuary. “I started to hear songwriters that were telling stories in three to five minutes; concepts and ideas that were not only spanning just that one song. \nOne of my favorite lyricists is Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys; the way he describes things\, you can almost touch it or smell it. ”Likewise\, on Black Sheep\, Meade’s vivid descriptions are palpable and immersive. They paint a picture the listener can step into\, like taking a journey through “two-lane highways and speed-trap towns ”that Meade traverses in “Déjà Vu.” “That’s my goal\,” he explains. “To make people feel like they’re in the room with the stories in my songs; they’re within that experience. ”Meade’s carefully crafted songs manage to be profound and provocative\, sonically suited for both dive bars and arenas. From these is mic guitars and painfully honest lyrics of a song like “Dopamine Drop” to the mournful\, lilting nostalgia and hard reality of “Settle Down” and on through the fantasy of “handwritten letters\, candle-wax seal\, Midwest American feel” in “Cave In\,” it is clear Meade’s ambitions and dreams are weighty.

SUMMARY:Max & Heather Stalling
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 28 August 2021\, 7:00pm. The Ector Theatre \, Odessa [All Ages] \nTickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/max-stalling/ \nTexas based songwriter\, Max Stalling\, had no expectation of ever being in the music business. “I didn’t even pick up a guitar until graduate school\,” notes Stalling. After attending high school in South Texas\, Stalling studied at Texas A&M – College Station\, where he earned a masters degree in Food Science. He followed the corporate road from there and eventually landed in Dallas working in product development for Frito-Lay. \nDuring this time\, Stalling discovered the Three Teardrops Tavern and Dallas community radio station KNON. These outlets exposed a musical heritage to which Stalling had been nearly oblivious. Inspired by artists like Townes Van Zandt\, Robert Earl Keen\, Guy Clark\, Lyle Lovett\, and Jerry Jeff Walker\, Stalling started writing songs\, recording albums\, and eventually touring with a full band to back him. Sixty thousand CDs later\, Stalling joined musical greats Kris Kristofferson\, Michael Nesmith of the Monkees\, Selena\, Guy Clark and many others when he received a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi. Stalling plays about 150 shows a year and is in the third year of a Budweiser sponsorship. His song “Scars and Souvenirs” was used as the title for an episode of Grey’s Anatomy in 2007 and he is featured on the CW Network’s Troubadour\, TX television series. He is a former member of the Board of Governors for the Texas Chapter of NARAS and has been lucky enough to share the stage with most of the artists that inspired him to start writing in the first place. \nStalling’s style is modern with a vintage feel. With Jeff Howe on drums and percussion\, Clay Willis on guitar\, and Jason Steinsultz swapping between upright and electric bass\, Stalling creates a dynamic live show that’s smart\, charming and as listenable as it is danceable. Stalling and troupe are equally at home on a huge concert stage in front of thousands or playing an acoustic set for a hundred. Attendance numbers at shows have continued to rise. “I chalk it up to the strength of the songs and the strength of my band”\, comments Max. \nDespite playing the same circuit as many household names in Texas country\, grouping Stalling with them would be premature. His unique voice and amusingly clever song lyrics pull him in a different direction – a direction most obviously evident in his newest record Home to You. \nStalling put together an elite team for his newest project\, including recording heavyweight and Grammy winner Lloyd Maines. Maines has been instrumental in developing the sounds of some of the best artists in music and has worked with industry giants including the Dixie Chicks\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, and Bruce Robison. Band members Steinsultz and Howe are featured prominently on the recordings as well as Stalling’s wife Heather. “I’m very proud of the life that everyone has given these songs\,” says Max. “They poured their hearts and souls into this project and I think people will be wowed by what they can do.” \nHome to You may be the best and most well rounded collection of songs that Stalling has released to date. It has earned Stalling a Best Album and Best Male Vocal nomination for the 2011 Lonestar Music Awards as well as his first #1 single on the Texas Regional Radio Report. The album has been a top seller at Lonestar Music since its release and the first single “I Aint Drinking Alone” was #14 on the Radio Free Texas 100 Most Requested Songs of 2010 list. The opening track\, which Stalling released as his second single\, is an unexpected tune borrowed from Austin music fixture Bob Schneider. “Long Way to Get” quickly rose to #3 on the Texas MusicChart. With songs about love\, love lost\, and the road\, the album is a perfect candidate for the repeat button on any music player. The collection wraps up with\, “The Fantasy Dinner\,” a light- hearted\, story song that captures Stalling’s creative mind in a way that will keep the listener intrigued and singing along by the second chorus. Matched with master musicianship and production\, this album will keep your foot tapping\, heart pounding\, and dancing shoes worn. \nHome to You was released August 17\, 2010\, following four previous studio projects (Topaz City\, 2008; Comfort In the Curves\, 1997; Wide Afternoon\, 2000; One of the Ways\, 2002) and two live releases (Sell-Out\, 2006; Live From The Granada CD/DVD 2009). Home to You was self- released on the Blind Nello Records label.
