DESCRIPTION:Artistic expression is inherently shaped by cultural influences and personal experiences within a given society.  Haiti is no exception to this rule.  In response to this cultural dynamic\, the nonprofit organization\, New Vision Art School\, located in Port-au-Prince\, Haiti was established to address a community need.  It serves as a safe haven for children\, offering them the opportunity to enjoy workshops\, channel their creativity\, embark on educational journeys to museums and other art-related institutions\, and fosters a supportive community where parents can connect and receive assistance. \nThis pop-up exhibition showcases the artistic creations by children who have benefitted from the nonprofit organization\, New Vision Art School\, located in Port-au-Prince\, Haiti. The artwork by these children reflects their cultural beliefs\, traditions\, and customs. \nPlease join us for a reception one week after opening\, on February 8th\, 2024\, at 6PM! \non loan from the Hatcher-Levinger Family collection.

DESCRIPTION:Gastronomy\nStudio Art Quilt Associates\nOpens December 7\, 2023\, 12:00 PM – March 10\, 2024 5:00 PM\nThe Ellen Noël Art Museum hosts its current exhibition on loan from the Studio Art Quilt Associates\, entitled “Gastronomy.” This collection is on view with free admission from December 7\, 2023 – March 10\, 2024. Please join us for MUSEUM UNCORKED: A NIGHT OF ART & WINE in conjunction with this exhibit on March 8\, 2024. \nGastronomy is the study of the relationship between food and culture\, featuring not only the bountiful gifts from nature\, but a gift from the human hand. The art of preparing unique\, delicate food is a tradition passed from generation to generation around the world. It combines innovative ingredients\, colors\, textures\, and flavors to create dishes that are pleasing to both the palate and the eye. This exhibition is the blend of the art of cooking and the artistry of quilting. Gastronomy showcases over 30 quilts created by members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates\, Inc. (SAQA) and juried by sisters and curators\, Cecilia and Merce Gonzalez Desedamasis. \nThis is the first time that the Ellen Noël Art Museum has hosted an exhibition by SAQA. They are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt: “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.” Their vision is that the art quilt is universally respected as a fine art medium. Over the past 30 years\, SAQA has grown into a dynamic and active community of over 4\,000 artists\, curators\, collectors\, and art professionals located around the world.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, September 13\, 2023  9:00 AM- \nSunday\, November 26\, 2023  5:00 PM  \n \nSophie Blackall is an award-winning children’s author and illustrator. Blackall’s artistry originated with drawing in the sand on the beaches of her childhood home in Australia. Her skills and passion grew until she earned a Bachelor of Design with honors in Sydney in 1992. In the following years\, she drew robotic figures for amusement parks\, lent her hands to a DIY television show\, and produced a household hints column. She has illustrated over 30 children’s books and created one book for adults. \nCurated by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature\, Hello Sophie!: The Picture Book Art of Sophie Blackall\, showcases examples of the 30 illustrated artworks for her children’s books that she created.
