Hands of the Himalayas: Gurung Fiber Traditions of Nepal

Ellen Noël Art Museum 4909 E. University, Odessa
Museum

A new exhibition is opening at the Ellen Noël Art Museum! Hands of the Himalayas: Gurung Fiber Traditions of Nepal is the story of the remarkable artistry and resourcefulness of the Gurung people, who have lived for centuries in the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas. Guest Curated by Kathleen Mahoney and the weavers and toolmakers of Sikles Village, this exhibition features handwoven textiles, baskets, mats, and tools created from materials gathered in the forests and mountains surrounding the village of Sikles. Hands of the Himalayas offers a rare opportunity to experience the enduring artistry of the Gurung people and gain a deeper appreciation for the relationship between craft, culture, and the landscape that sustains them. Admission to the Museum is always free.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
