    Matthew Shafer (born June 6, 1974), also known by his stage name Uncle Kracker, is an American singer-songwriter, former rapper and musician known for his country and rock music. He was a turntablist for Kid Rock's backing group Twisted Brown Trucker and since 1999 has recorded as a solo artist. His singles "Follow Me" and "Drift Away" were top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Shafer was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan, on June 6, 1974. With his brother Mike Shafer, he visited a nightclub in Clawson, Michigan where a turntables competition was occurring.

    2nd Annual Tailgate Open Benefitting The Make A Wish Foundation Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Hogan Park Golf Course We are bringing back the Tailgate Open, Midland’s favorite golf tournament, on Saturday, August 23, at Hogan Park Golf Course. Teams of four will hit the greens for 18 holes starting at 8 AM, with registration priced at $1,000 per team. Each team receives the VIP treatment, including a catered lunch, drinks, and swag. ​ Proceeds from the event benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation West Texas, supporting more than 700 families across the Permian Basin. ​ Email Gabby at gabby@thetailgatemidland.com to secure your team’s spot, be a sponsor or toss something in the swag bag.
