Malevo

Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center 1310 FM 1788, Midland, Texas

MALEVO – the “South American Sensation” – was created by director, choreographer, and dancer, Matías Jaime. The Company has reenvisioned the Argentine dance of Malambo; taking what is a traditional Argentinian folkloric dance performed originally by Gauchos of the Pampas region and elevating it to a modern, avant-garde, and transgressive vision. While maintaining the great virility and dexterity of Malambo, the Company has elevated this traditional dance by fusing its classic technique with other styles such as Flamenco, and incorporating live percussion onstage. Set to a pulsating rhythm of drums, the choreography combines the use of boleadoras, a leather and stone hunting tool used by Gauchos, with fast leg movements, energetic zapateados (stomping), and quick cepillados (“brushing”/”scrubbing”). Exciting and dynamic shows where the dancers created a performance that not only pushes the Malambo style beyond its limits but gives audiences an extraordinary visual and sensory experience unlike any other. After being named “Cultural Ambassador of the National Identity of Argentina” and achieving numerous successes, including  shows and performances in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Qatar, France, Montecarlo, Spain, Saint Petersburg, Canada, London, and Moscow, as well as special invitation to participate with  Cirque du Soleil,  creates malambo choreographies for […]

Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center 1310 FM 1788, Midland, Texas

Lucinda Williams and her band and Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs live for an evening of hits and singalongs. Lucinda Williams’ music has gotten her through her darkest days. It’s been that way since growing up amid family chaos in the Deep South, as she recounts in her candid new memoir, Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I told You. Over the past two years, it’s been the force driving her recovery from a debilitating stroke she suffered on November 17, 2020, at age 67. Her masterful, multi-Grammy-winning songwriting has never deserted her. To wit, her stunning, sixteenth studio album, Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart, brims over with some of the best work of her career. And though Williams can no longer play her beloved guitar – a constant companion since age 12 – her distinctive vocals sound better than ever. Mike Campbell was a member, architect and co-captain of the Heartbreakers, a band he co-founded with Tom Petty, whom he met in a Gainesville, Florida carport in 1972. The Heartbreakers lead guitarist, Campbell co-wrote many of the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers hits and also co-produced many of their albums – in addition to penning songs for […]
