Con Cariño Art Exhibition

Ellen Noel Art Museum 4909 E. University, Odessa

Guadalupe Hernandez is a Texas-based artist who earned his MFA from Houston Baptist University in 2021. Hernandez was born in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, before relocating to Pleasanton, TX, a small city south of San Antonio, in 1998. Despite the move to the United States, Hernandez maintained a deep connection to his Mexican heritage and customs through time-honored familial traditions. This exhibit pays homage to his parents who left their homeland in search of a brighter future for their family. The accompanying pieces in this collection weave together fragments of their journey and the various forms of labor they undertook to provide their children with the opportunities they were denied. Con Cariño translates to “with love” or “with care” Central to Hernandez’s practice is the use of chisels and punches, which wield a dual significance in this body of work. The physicality of using the chisel—he believes—mirrors the repetitive and labor-intensive endeavors of his parents. The level of skill, precision, and care required to produce these delicate designs serve as a visual representation of his love and admiration for the sacrifices his parents made. FIND TICKETS HERE 20 year old Música Mexicana break-out star Ivan Cornejo (@ivancornejoo) has announced the MIRADA TOUR in support of his upcoming album, with a stop in Odessa, Texas, at the Ector County Coliseum on Friday, September 27, 2024. Cornejo’s new album ‘MIRADA’ will be released on July 18 via Zaragoza Records / Interscope Records. “My new album represents an exciting evolution, and growth of my musical journey,” Cornejo says. “Each track has a blend of my signature style but with a fresh sound that pushes the boundaries of my art.” Earlier this year, Ivan performed a record-breaking show in front of 72,000 people at a sold-out Rodeo Houston stadium show. The experience was daunting for the introspective then 19 year-old artist who only a couple of years ago was busy on TikTok, posting his confessional songs about having his heart broken in middle school. But the power of his own music – and a devoted fan base – carried him along during the biggest show of his career so far.

The Wallflowers

Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define, or even to find, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying, you know it when you hear it. And you always hear it with the Wallflowers. For the past 30 years, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over.
