Silverton Powerhouse Art Exhibit

The Midland College Art Department invites you to experience works by the Silverton, Colorado Powerhouse Art Guild.  The exhibit is displayed August 21-September 29 in the Allison Fine Arts Building McCormick Gallery.  Gallery hours are 8:00 am-9:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Friday.  There is no fee to view the exhibit. The Silverton Powerhouse Art Guild is an eclectic group of artists who's mutual purpose is the aesthetic, educational and cultural betterment of the surrounding community. Operating out of Silverton's historic powerhouse building in the iconic San Juan Mountain Range, the Powerhouse Art guild represents a creative presence that offers a variety of unique content--not just active ceramics production from occupant members, but academically immersive opportunities for local inhabitants, such as pottery master classes and regular resident guest artists. The Powerhouse Art Guild seeks to further the positive creative trajectory that is intent on making Silverton, Colorado even more of an artistic, cultural destination. Exhibition by Nanibah Chacon, CURRENTS, showcases a body of work made around the study of water as abstract drawings and string installations.The work began with questioning the personal investment in water conservation movements and politics. For one month, Nanibah did several studies of water using ink and paper. The work examines the line as language to understand the simplest formations of water and movement, investing time to understand its nature and allowing that process to become a point of growth and personal transformation.

  Join us at the Ellen Noël Art Museum for a delightful event designed for art-loving preschoolers aged 3-5 and their grown-ups. At 1:00 PM, we invite you to enjoy a beautifully illustrated story and an engaging art activity. This free event offers an entertaining children's story followed by a hands-on art project that relates to the tale. Our featured book for this session is Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. Children will be enchanted by the heartwarming story of Annabelle and her magical box of yarn, and afterward, they will get to create their own colorful art inspired by the book. It’s a wonderful opportunity to nurture a love of reading and creativity in young children while spending quality time together. Texas Sounds & Cities Conference

Join the City of Lubbock, the Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation, the Lubbock Music Advisory Committee, and the Office of the Governor's Texas Music Office for the 6th Annual Texas Sounds & Cities Conference in Lubbock, TX November 6-8, 2024! This two-day conference will include panel discussions on Texas music scene development, conversations about potential state-wide collaboration between the certified communities, as well as conversations spotlighting economic development best practices which in turn lead to increased music tourism and music scene cohesion. This yearly conference is a time for our Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities to come together and learn from each other. Music Friendly Texas Community Liaisons are invited to present updates from their respective programs. There will be time for round table discussions to learn from the successes and challenges of their fellow certified communities.
