Exhibition opens: LES DINERS DE GALA BY SALVADOR DALI

LES DINERS DE GALA BY SALVADOR DALI On loan from the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University Jan 13- Mar 27 “Les Diners de Gala” (Gala’s Dinners) was published in 1973 and instantly became a Salvador Dalí collectable. This unique cookbook was published as a collaboration between Dalí and a secret chef. The “secret chef” turned out to be chefs from the top French restaurants of the day–including Lasserre, La Tour d’Argent, Maxim’s and Le Buffet de la Gare de Lyon.  Dalí was not only a brilliant artist, but also had a self-proclaimed refined taste for food and wine. Dalí’s introduction to the book states that since he was a little boy he wanted to be a master-chef. With 136 recipes in twelve chapters, this collection of eccentric formulas includes an entire chapter on aphrodisiacs, the correct use of atteletes (meat jewelry) and sketches of limbless dwarves eating eggs. This exhibit showcases a portfolio of twelve lithographs that were released in conjunction of the book entitled “Les Diners De Gala” (printed in 1971). These lithographs are the outcome of Dalí’s experimentation with mixed media and are regarded as his most unique prints. The exhibition is organized and traveled by the Castellani Art […]

Opening Reception: Waterworks

Jan 27th – Exhibition reception at 5:30PM (UTPB) | 6:30PM (ENAM) - Water Works Jan 27- Apr 24 As humans, we connect with water on many levels. Water is vital, spiritual, and restorative. It is a commonality that connects us all, to each other, and to our biosphere. This exhibition will explore how different artists interpret this theme and its relationship in our society. With the help of these artists, this show helps us remember, imagine, and even embody the importance of water to life on this planet, and in our communities. The impetus for this exhibition, in collaboration with the University of Texas Permian Basin’s Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery and the Ellen Noël Art Museum, came from community members focusing on water issues in the Permian Basin. A national call has gone out to artists to submit their work regarding the topic of Water.  Selected work will be displayed at both the Cardozier Gallery and at the Ellen Noel Art Museum’s Nelda Lee Gallery during the winter of 2022. UTPB will also be hosting the exhibition Water/Ways on loan from the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street Program.
