  • Vizyon Art by Young Visionaries – Haitian Children’s Art Show – Exhibit Opens

    Artistic expression is inherently shaped by cultural influences and personal experiences within a given society.  Haiti is no exception to this rule.  In response to this cultural dynamic, the nonprofit organization, New Vision Art School, located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti was established to address a community need.  It serves as a safe haven for children, offering them the opportunity to enjoy workshops, channel their creativity, embark on educational journeys to museums and other art-related institutions, and fosters a supportive community where parents can connect and receive assistance. This pop-up exhibition showcases the artistic creations by children who have benefitted from the nonprofit organization, New Vision Art School, located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The artwork by these children reflects their cultural beliefs, traditions, and customs. Please join us for a reception one week after opening, on February 8th, 2024, at 6PM! on loan from the Hatcher-Levinger Family collection.

This in-person gathering will take place at the Ector County Library and Midland County Library, where instructor Caleb Mendes and aspiring artists will come together to explore the wonderful world of comic creation. Get ready to unleash your creativity as we dive into the art of crafting captivating comics. This course aims to inspire and guide participants through the process of developing their own unique comic strips. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, this event offers something for everyone. During this interactive course, you'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced comic creators, exchange ideas with fellow participants, and gain valuable insights into the comic industry. His relatable approach affirms his status as one of the country’s fastest-rising comics, viewed over 223 million times, selling out shows coast-to-coast, amassing over 2 million total social media followers, and headlining specials for Amazon, NETFLIX, Showtime, and more. He started cutting his teeth in Dallas, Texas, working as a door guy at the Improv and earning himself a spot to open the iconic 2001 Three Amigos Comedy Tour. He quickly earned his stripes and an audience on the comedy club circuit, and he began headlining on his own by the age of 25.
