March 29th 1PM – 5PM Gardendale Community Center The Easter Egg Hunt will begin around 4PM, so don’t miss it!     Come see the story you know and love told in a whole new way! With flying dancers, animated backdrops, live orchestra, and over 140 costumes, it’s sure to lift you out of your seat! This ballet was many "firsts" for Midland Festival Ballet, the most significant being it is the first full length ballet they created. Other exciting firsts included flying dancers and using digital projections as the backdrop. The result is a mesmerizing explosion of movement, light and color unlike anything MFB had performed before. All that paired with the drama of live orchestral accompaniment made this, without a doubt, the largest collaborative project MFB had ever undertaken. And West Texans were the first to see it at the premiere performance here at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in April 2022! Midland Festival Ballet is excited to bring it back. Accompanied by the West Texas Symphony.

  • Shifting Subjects: Heroes of the West: Exhibition Opening

    The first hero was nature herself; sweeping landscapes awed early audiences and are still prominent in modern pieces. Then, the people took their turn. Though early depictions of cowboys and Native Americans were often flawed in interpretation and depiction, it is the heroic moments of perseverance within a harsh landscape that made them worthy of immortalization through art. Finally, wildlife stole the focus. The simple yet powerful balance animals create in nature harmonized the disruptiveness of people and the emptiness of a landscape. Each of these subjects has created visual lessons on what the West is, was, and how it has changed today. Admission to the Museum and it’s exhibitions is always free. Shifting Subjects: Heroes of the West is on view April 2 through May 31.
