B. Shawn Cox, originally from Monahans, Texas, veered away from a ranching lifestyle to pursue degrees in Architecture and Law. Following various business ventures and detours, he now finds himself driven by a compelling urge to create. His current artistic endeavors involve revisiting and reflecting upon memories, perceptions, and understandings-some real, some imagined, often twisted. Through this exploration of both internal and external narratives, Cox aims to visually express the motivations and gain insights into the world and his place within it. Ellen Noël Art Museum is temporarily housed in the UTPB Presidential Archives, located at 4919 E. University Blvd. Odessa, TX 79762. This exhibition is open during their business hours: TUESDAY – SUNDAY 12 – 5 PM THURSDAY 12 – 8 PM CLOSED MONDAY AND HOLIDAYS Admission is FREE

The Ellen Noël Art Museum is thrilled to announce a new session of Adventures in Art, designed for aspiring artists aged 6-12. This engaging program offers young creatives the opportunity to learn the art of portrait painting, focusing on capturing the likeness of family members. Classes are scheduled from 2:30-4:30 PM, making for an inspiring and educational afternoon activity. Participants will begin with a tour of the museum's current exhibitions, drawing inspiration from professional artworks before diving into their own studio projects. The hands-on experience allows students to explore various techniques and develop their unique artistic skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. The cost for each class is $20, with advance online registration required. Due to the limited class size, we encourage early registration to ensure your young artist secures a spot. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the world of portrait painting, gain new artistic insights, and enjoy a creative and supportive environment. Don’t miss out on this wonderful chance for your child to enhance their artistic abilities and create meaningful portraits of their loved ones. Registration forms coming soon.

Our collecting mission has been rooted in the belief that collecting art is not merely a task; it is a responsibility we hold for future generations. By ensuring that these works of art, along with the narratives they convey, remain accessible, we are fostering a lasting connection between our community and the artistic expressions that define it. This exhibition will not only showcase 40 exceptional artists but also feature a timeline that highlights significant events from the Museum's history over the last 40 years. These artworks will spark memories of past shows, programs, and events, allowing visitors to reflect on our history. We invite you to explore these artistic contributions that resonate with our identity and inspire ongoing dialogue about our community's journey.
