Friday, 10 September 2021, 6:00pm. The Ector Theatre , Odessa Tickets: https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/austin-meade-10sep2021/ On Black Sheep, Austin Meade delivers songs and stories that, like the young singer/guitarist himself, are contradictory yet cohesive. His influences—musical and otherwise—are as varied and rich as the small-town Texas soil that nurtured his talent, yielding 12 stellar songs ranging from the insinuating multi-layered musicality and storytelling of “Déjà Vu” to the dark alt-pop of “Happier Alone,” and on further to the new-age, Sabbath-inspired “Dopamine Drop. ”Thanks to his metal-and classic-rock loving dad, Meade got to see bands like Judas Priest and worshipped Whitesnake. In junior high he related to the intense emo-rock of Paramore and Fall Out Boy, and the power of songwriters like John Mayer. Yet, thanks top lain spoken but deep heartland songwriters like Tom Petty, and cutting his teeth touring in the Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt scene, Meade’s music overflows with wide-open soulfulness. He was a drummer for years, even teaching to pay the bills, but Meade found his true voice when he began playing guitar as a teen in his pastor-father’s church. Those experiences lend both a gravitas and rebelliousness to Meade’s songs and self. The songs on Black Sheep, produced […]

You will hear most of the Troubadours roaring as his backing band on the record but this isn’t an uninspired spin-off or half-baked reboot of a good thing. Lightning on the Mountain has an identity entirely it’s own- a western-inspired collection of literary songs, which tell stories from Nix’s own history as well as of the many unique characters he “may or may not have encountered” throughout his years on the road. Originally from Perry, Oklahoma, Kyle Nix grew up literally surrounded by musical instruments. His grandfather was a carpenter and part-time fiddle maker. “As a kid, the fiddles were off limits because they were breakable, delicate... that just made me want to mess with them more”, he laughs. Eventually, though, he got his hands on the instrument and began taking lessons in Enid, Oklahoma from bluegrass fiddler Shirley Landrum. “I was lucky that my parents were willing to drive me around to lessons […] GET THE PICTURE Saturday, September 11, 2021 7:30 PM | Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center Gary Lewis, Conductor Lei Weng, Piano ETEZADY - “Diamond Rain” GERSHWIN - Concerto in F MUSSORGSKY/RAVEL - Pictures at an Exhibition Tickets start at $11 | Students $8 https://www.mosc.org/concerts/picture.html 800-514-3849 Wagner Noël Box Office M-F, 1-5PM Scheduled programs and individuals are subject to change.
